There are many sites, magazines, and experts that tell you how to lose weight. A low-carb diet is one of the most effective methods for losing weight. Here, you’ll find some of the best low-carb alternatives to your favourite dishes to help you kick your carb dependency.

Teller mit Burger Salat und Pommes

For breakfast, there are rolls with jam or cereal. For each hot meal, there is a side dish of potatoes, rice, or pasta and lunch can be the standard sandwich with cheese or lunchmeat. So, what you’re missing are suitable alternatives. Most people are worried that they will have to forego a lot of foods and then only eat vegetables and lean meat. But that’s not true.

The bread substitute: Rice cakes

Bread is incredibly delicious and indispensable in most kitchens, but bread contains a lot of carbohydrates. The food industry has jumped on the low-carb train and started producing so-called protein breads, which have significantly fewer carbohydrates, but instead they have 3 to 10 times the fat. Even though not all fats are created equal, this means they have a very high calorie count. So, what to do? The answer is quite simple: rice cakes! A rice cake has only 6 grams of carbohydrates and after two cakes with toppings you should feel as full as you would after a sandwich!

The pasta substitute: Vegetables

Spaghetti carbonara, bolognese, or lasagna are indeed a culinary delight, but the carbs add up fast too. Vegan chefs like Attila Hildmann have let us in on a little secret: vegetable spaghetti! Simply chop vegetables such as zucchini or carrots into strips with the peeler and blanch in boiling water for 5 minutes. Add some sauce and enjoy!

A little tip: try konjac spaghetti as a substitute. We tried it yesterday in the office. Zero calories, a consistency similar to pasta, taste-neutral, and therefore the perfect background for delicious sauces.

The potato substitute: Cauliflower

You should already know that most vegetables are low in carbohydrates. Cauliflower should definitely be on your plate more often, especially if you’re a potato lover. The reason: anyone who likes to eat mashed potatoes will be more than convinced by mashed cauliflower! 100 grams of potatoes contain 14 grams of carbohydrates, while 100 grams of cauliflower contain only 2.5 grams. Just try it!

The rice substitute: Quinoa

Quinoa is a pseudo cereal cooked like a grain that contains large amounts of protein, magnesium, iron, and fiber. It is the ideal substitute for rice, because it stimulates your digestion and keeps you full for a long time. It also supplies you with vital minerals. You can find it in most grocery stores. If not by the rice, look in the health food/organic section.

The cereal replacement: Chia seeds

Oatmeal, Kellogg’s, etc. are supposed to help you get your day off to a good start, but they do so with the help of numerous carbohydrates. They’re great for bulking up, but what if you actually want to lose weight? Your substitute, especially if you don’t always want to eat eggs for breakfast, is chia seeds. This miracle seed of the Maya is a superfood, which means that its nutrients are especially conducive to your health and your body. In addition to the many helpful nutrients, chia seeds have another property. In water, they increase their weight 10 times so they keep you full for a long time.T

The wheat flour substitute: Almond and coconut flour

Everyone thinks about baking during the holidays. Cakes and cookies are a real treat, but they also quickly find their way to your love handles. A good alternative for your baking experiments would be almond or coconut flour, but remember that you may have to change up how much flour you’re using in a recipe. You can’t trade wheat flour for almond or coconut at a 1:1 ratio. If you don’t want to worry yourself with experimentation, there are a lot of recipes online.

The chips substitute: Vegetable chips

It’s time to boot up Netflix and watch your favourite TV series, or a thrilling horror movie, and you’re looking for something to nibble on while you watch. Studies have shown that we particularly like to reach into the bowl during action films. However, there’s not much positive about potato chips aside from the fact that they are damn delicious. Personally, I can’t persuade myself just to eat vegetable sticks instead. But a great alternative is oven baked or roasted vegetables. Crunchy, low in calories, and varied. There are great recipes online, and you have total freedom when seasoning your favorite vegetables!

You can use these tips to reduce your carb intake for even faster and better results. If your favorite sin is not one of these or if you want other food alternatives, then simply tell us or ask in the comments.
